Distribution substation equipment, including switches and transformers, switch and transform high voltages and currents. Switching these high voltages can cause the production of electric arcs, which pose a safety and manufacturing risk. SF6 (sulfur hexafluoride) gas is used for insulation purposes in this equipment . Indeed, this gas is a more efficient alternative to insulating materials such as water and oil, thanks to its ionization properties for suppressing electric arcs. However, as it is a powerful greenhouse gas, it is important to ensure that any gas leaks are detected and resolved appropriately.
The new Fluke Ti450 SF6 thermal imaging camera allows you to detect leaks of this gas with greater efficiency and savings of money as it allows you to switch from the classic IR to SF6 detection directly in the field.
