WDC2 Dry Cleane r for WDH Safety Support and Optimal Cleaning Kit. When using lead-free alloys you will notice an increase in oxidation in the wettable area of the tip. This oxide must be removed regularly, otherwise it will make the tip completely non-wettable and no longer usable. When cleaning the tip with the WDC Weller Dry Cleaner a special metal wool is used to remove the excess alloy and at the same time the oxides formed on the tip. cleaning is done by pressing and twisting the tip into the metal wool. After cleaning there is still a small layer of alloy on the tip to avoid quick oxidation of the iron layer. this offers a huge advantage over cleaning with a sponge. Metal wool can be dipped in a flux which could improve its performance.
With the use of the Tip Activator it is possible to regenerate the oxidized tips. The Tip Activator is environmentally safe and contains no halides, lead, resin or residue. Regular use when soldering can extend the life of the tips.
Finally, the special WPB1 Abrasive Bar allows the removal of consistent oxidations. This accessory allows you to scratch the deepest oxidations. Warning: FOR COLD USE! Very gently scrape the cold tips and then let them heat up and stagnate them. This accessory should be used when the tip no longer allows wettability and is intended as a last resort to save the tips.
